Project Description
Twisted under, sideways down
Date: 2010
Location: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Los Angeles, California
Commissioning Agent: Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and the DCA Public Art Program
Medium: Flagging tape and suction cups
Size: 12 x 6 x 6 feet / 3.66 x 1.83 x 1.83 meters
The points along the four walls of the glass vitrine were arranged along inverted catenary curves. The orange and blue colors of the flagging tape were chosen as complementary colors, to highlight the difference between the two resulting forms when the planes were connected in space. From certain viewpoints, this arrangement seemed very obvious, from others, quite random and dynamic. This encouraged viewers to pause and investigate the work from many directions.
