Project Description
Date: 2016
Location: Cypress, CA
Commissioning Agent: Cypress College Art Gallery
Medium: Flagging tape, pedestal
Size: 9 x 4 x 10 feet / 2.74 x 1.22 x 3.05 meters
Commissioned for the exhibition: Newton to Albers: Color Theory to Creative Practice, this installation was conceived with tonality (the mixture of color with gray) as its inspiration. The palette was intentionally restricted to bright orange and silver, which reads as gray. Three varieties of flagging tape were utilized, solid strands of both florescent orange and silver, as well as florescent orange and silver-striped tape. These colors were arranged and woven in a mathematical progression that spanned outward from saturated color in the center of the pedestal, through striped tape, to the silver tape at the end. The strands originating from the perimeter of the pedestal are connected to two of the ceiling indentations above, creating a V-shape in space.
